Optimise Your Site First, Focus on Advertising Later

Which do you put more time and attention into – building your website or marketing it? If you’re like most online entrepreneurs, you probably spend more time creating killer ad copy and posting interesting tidbits of information to social media sites to increase web traffic. But the truth is without a great website, those visitors you attract won’t stay on your site very long – or at least not long enough to place an order or sign up for your email marketing campaign.

More Content Please!

Bare bones websites no longer generate profits simply because those who browse the Internet want more. One of the best ways to increase website conversion rates is to provide expert content that’s fun and interesting to read. If you put the same amount of effort into writing quality articles, white papers, case studies, interviews, or creating video clips that you put into your marketing campaign, most likely, you will see a huge increase in sales in a short amount of time.

If you’re not a web writer, consider hiring someone to write content for you. Update your site often with new content to keep people interested. Give people a reason to visit your site and linger until they complete your call to action.

Sales Pitch

To sell a specific product or service, you need a compelling sales page with a clear, direct call to action (Buy Now, Instant Access, Order Here, Order Today). People buy based on emotion and logic. Start by appealing to a visitor’s emotional needs (such as solving a common problem for them) and then add the technical features of your product or service – not the other way around.
Add at least three call to action buttons in the sales copy to increase the possibility of making a sale. Create call to action buttons that stand out from the rest of the copy. Make sure to highlight any free gifts or other incentives for completing this call to action.

Maintaining Order

Instead of just piling on new content by adding links to existing pages, take some time to go through your site to see where new content would be the most beneficial. Recycle old content by creating an online archive. Create a site map that allows visitors to browse through only the sections they want to see.

Consider your website a living, breathing entity that needs care and attention on a constant basis. Updating content, refining sales pages, and making sure everything remains in order will help increase conversion rates over time.
